Counselors’ Corner

October has come and gone and November is upon us, with the holidays just around the corner. We went to the Salvation Army Fall Festival a couple of nights ago and had a great time. The kids got to play some games and slide down the big air slide, and we ate nachos, hotdogs, and burgers for supper. And I visited the country store and found a few nice things with the last five dollars I had. My greatest find was a small rectangular plate that matched my wedding crystal. I’ve been collecting pieces to this set since I got married twenty-some-odd years ago, so when I find one, I’m ecstatic. It just fit my sugar bowl and creamer set! And I paid $1 for it. That’s the kind of deal I like! A cousin of mine once said “I can make any mobile home a palace given enough garage sales and a little time.” I tend to agree with that sentiment. I have filled my mobile home with finds from garage sales, the Salvation Army thrift store, and Christian services. Why pay $20 when you can pay $2, and pay your tithes with the rest?

Well, I still have no other job opportunities right now, and I believe God is telling me to stay put at the Boys and Girls Club for now. I called about my student loans and believe I can have then put on hold for now. I can’t do anything official until Nov. 8, but I will do what I can then. Pray for this situation. Also pray for good things at the BGC, as I have had some difficulty with a few of the more unruly students there. I believe I have a fairly good discipline plan, with rewards for good behavior, but the punishment for bad behavior is severely lacking in my opinion. I am limited as to what kinds of punishment can be enforced effectively. Mostly they get written up for infractions and sent to sit in the hall. This doesn’t really work toward the goal of self discipline, but it gets the troublemakers out of the room so I can actually work with those who want to do something constructive. I try not to put them out unless it’s something serious like hitting or talking down to another child. Verbal abuse is just as bad as physical abuse as far as I’m concerned. I’ve been on the receiving end of both, and they both hurt! I still find myself yelling much too much. I got a whistle from Rocky and try to use it some, but when 30 kids are talking loudly, sometimes the only way to get their attention is to yell. Pray for me, though, that I can find better ways to communicate with this unruly bunch.

I’ve been trying to keep up with the news a little, but what I’m reading is enough to scare the Hell out of all of us. I don’t understand how people can read what’s going on in the world and not see scripture coming to pass on a daily basis. Obama, it seems, is getting more and more control over everything in this country and not always legitimately. He’s putting more and more unelected czars in place and several other things that I find disturbing - mostly his harsh stance toward Israel. The Word clearly tells us that God will bless the nation that blesses Israel and God will curse the nation that curses Israel. I pray that there are enough folks in America that care for the nation of Israel, because if this nation goes the way Obama is leading us, we are likely going to be cursed by God. I truly hope not, but that’s how it looks to me. This country needs a strong leader in the other direction. I pray that Sarah Palin gets another chance, as she is very pro-life and conservative on most issues. We need a strong prolife/conservative candidate in any case though, who can beat Obama back to where he came from. And my views have nothing to do with the color of his skin, but the motives of his heart, if he has one, that is. I had hoped he wouldn’t be as bad as he is, but he has always been a strong abortion promoter and now more so than ever. If the man has no respect for life in the womb, how can he have any respect for life outside the womb? I’m not sure he can. I any case, I’ve said my peace, and hope I don’t offend too many of you out there. I don’t apologize for being pro-life, nor conservative, but I will tell you the truth about what I think and feel in most cases. If I offend, sorry, but that just me.

I just heard that Rock got accepted into a nursing program, at one of the local colleges up there in North Carolina, but he still has to pay some money back to USM before he can start. Sunny will be back in school as well, in January. Sunny has had some difficulty with anxiety issues, so please pray for her well-being. I believe they are all coming home for Christmas this year and I am looking forward to it greatly. Tommy is looking into to going to college at PRC, and Amanda, his girl friend is at Basic Training with the National Guard program. She’ll be back by Christmas, too, I believe. It would be nice to have all my children home for the holidays. It’s seems like this year has whizzed by and we have much to be thankful for this holiday season. I finished school this year, halleluiah, and I’m not sure what could be better than that. A nice paying job, maybe, but luxury is in the eye of the beholder. Milk and bread has been daily fair lately, so who am I to complain. We have our daily bread and for that I’m grateful. We had some help on quite a few occasions to get by, but God had provided in one way or another. Godly people have helped and I have found bargains where there should have been none. God has been truly faithful this year and I hope to have to help plan a wedding in the next year (if Tommy sticks to his intent). So all in all, it’s been a good year, a blessed year, and a happy one. God has answered long sought prayers, and come through in some pretty tough times. Be thankful for what you have, pray for what you need, and be content whatever your circumstances. God is there, even if it seems He is far away! God bless to all! Happy Thanksgiving!

Notes and Prayer Requests

• My little Awana boy from last year, Zack Little, is going away for 4 months for chemotherapy, so please keep him in your prayers.

• Tommy has a new girl friend, Amanda, who is left for basic training in October, so please pray for her.

• Rock has now been accepted in a nursing school in North Carolina, but needs funds to pay USM back. Pray for a full time job for him, to make that happen.

• My daughter Sunny has experienced some personal setbacks, but is trying to finish up her education as well. Pray for strength of mind, body, and spirit!

• Rose has just got a promotion at Duke!

• I would appreciate if you’d let me know of grammar, punctuation, and other mistakes I may have made. My goal is to make the paraphrase as simple and clear as possible. I know they still need much work, as they are drafts of a work in progress. I don’t know of any other Bible that uses the Name of Yahweh (I am in Hebrew), so I have worked hard to get it right. Please pray that God helps me in this work, and let me know of any mistakes you find. Thank all of you who are praying for me on this.







Daily Bible Reading Plans for the New Word, The Old Sayings, and The Old Hymns



The New Word, The Old Sayings and The Old Hymns is a unique feminist approach to a gender-neutral paraphrase of the Holy Bible, which uses the true name of Yahweh God and of Yeshua, the Christ, rather than the traditional man made form of Jehovah. I attempted this several year project out of a strong desire to make known the true name of Yahweh God and to help complete the great commission of Jesus Christ. It is the first Bible to my knowledge that uses the Name of God in its proper form, which had fallen out of use because of the Hebraic tradition to not say it at all by replacing it with Lord (Adoni) or God (Elohim), for fear of using it in vain. Yahweh, in the Hebrew, simply means I AM. Yahweh God is the great I AM!

This paraphrase is a working draft, and these are the published excerpts in the completed series. This version is particularly intended to reach an audience on the internet, that may not just go pick up a Bible and read it. I would like to encourage Christians and non-Christians alike to read through them using one of the suggested reading plans below and comment on them, whether you have a critique, editing correction, or praise. I am particularly looking for clarity of ideas, and simplicity for a younger or less educated audiences, which may have trouble reading and understanding some of the other more traditional versions. Archaic language, has been replaced by more modern readings of the ideas presented in the KJV. If you find a section that is still somewhat difficult to read, or understand, please let me know your thoughts on it. I would like to make all the corrections necessary before attempting further publication and dissemination. I am asking for the Triond community and other readers to help me find any significant errors, and check for readability.
