According to a recent article from OneNewsNow.com, a Philadelphia, Pa. man raped a 9 year old girl and killed her. The girl's mother said that the brutal rape and killing might never have happened if police had taken an earlier incident between the child and the suspect more seriously. The young girl’s mother, Heather Gebhard, told reporters that the police "blew me off" last month when she complained about another incident involving her daughter, Skyler Kauffman, and the man who killed her.
Skyler was killed three weeks after the first incident with James Lee Troutman. According to investigators, on April 18, Skyler and a friend were near Troutman's apartment and needed to use the restroom. He invited them in, but the girls got scared when they entered and saw pictures of naked women all over the walls. Enticing children into his apartment, should have at least had him seriously investigated, but because “no crime was committed” no charges were filed. Because enticement is not considered a crime, this child is dead. Troutman confessed to killing the girl in the basement of the apartment complex where they both lived, police said. The girl's body was discovered in a nearby trash bin, wrapped in a blood-soaked comforter, a few hours after she didn't come home for dinner after playing outside.

Children, like Skyler, are sexually abused, raped, and murdered everyday, because we keep letting these pedophiles and rapist back out on the streets to molest children again and again. Most pedophiles have many victims before they are ever caught. Many times, the victims never tell, but other times the victims do tell and no one does anything about it. Families sweep the abuse under the rug, police don’t file charges for lack of evidence, and when they are caught, the courts let them out before they serve any real time. Silence is what perpetuates these kinds of crimes. If someone doesn’t stand up for a child when they are abused, then many more children will likely be abused by that same pedophile, until someone stops him or her.
I just recently read another story about a British woman, who was a day care worker, who was caught molesting young children and taking pictures of it with her cell phone to send to her boyfriend. These were preschoolers. Children are not safe in this world, and we must do everything we can to make it a better world for our children. Let’s get these pedophiles off our streets and lock them up where they belong. We need stronger laws that include enticement in them. But no law will make a difference if the people who know don’t report that a child is being abused. Sexual abuse of a child is a crime that must be reported by law.
